UiTM 60 YEARS

ANNIVERSARY 60 KM RUN

he enthusiastic joggers and runners of UNIVERSITI TEKNOLOGI MARA Sarawak Branch came together to form a club
called Kakiku Berekot. The auspicious launching of the club took off with a 10-km run loop from Campus 2 to Campus
T1 and back by eight pioneers who included Associate Professor Dr. Margaret Chan, Associate Professor Dr. Voon Boo Ho,
Dr. Caesar Delwis, Mr. Mohd Farid Assamani Mohamed Zainon, Mr. Zahari Abu Bakar, Ms. Ardiana Mazwa Raudah Amir Abdullah,
Mr. Mohd Zakey Ramlee and Mr. Abdul Faeez Izihar Abd Jaffar on 16 April 2016.
The next big event was the UiTM 60 Years Anniversary 60 km Run mooted to be part of
the activities of UiTM Sarawak celebration of the 60 Anniversary of UiTM. This event was
th
organized in collaboration with the Sports Unit of UiTM Sarawak with the first meeting to
come up with the proposal held on 2 September 2016. The approval was obtained from the
Rector, Professor Dato Dr. Jamil Hamali on 7 September 2016 in Banjarmasin, Kalimatan,
Indonesia after being briefed by PM Dr. Margaret. The industrious committee under the
leadership of Mr. Mohd Farid contributed towards the success of the event, which was held
from 28 to 29 October 2016. Ten teams registered with each team consisting of three UiTM
Sarawak staff and three students with a registration fee of RM30 for each staff and RM15
for each student. Sponsors from Syarikat Tegul Kekal, Associate Professor Dr. Voon Boo Ho,
United Digital Imaging, Smart PC Enterprise and others contributed to the success of the
event.

The evening event started off with aerobics guided by the students from the Sports Science
and Recreation Faculty at 8:00 pm at Campus 2. With every safety procedure in place assisted
by student volunteers as marshals and UiTM Police Unit, the flag off was at 10:10 pm on
28 October 2016 by Associate Professor Dr. Firdaus Abdullah, Assistant Rector of Campus
Samarahan 2 on behalf of the Rector. Dr. Firdaus joined in the first 5 km of the run.
The winner was Team Gorgeous led by Ms. Kadariah binti Yassin, with the strategy of
slower runners running 5 km only, while two of their stronger runners running in split 15
km distance. The first runner up was Team Sinaran Binatang led by Associate Professor Dr.
Margaret Chan powered by the fastest runner, student Mr. Najrul Zariaeidul from the Faculty
of Plantation and Agrotechnology with his 44 minutes of effort. The second runner up was
Team Samarahan Runners Community (SRC) led by Mr. Abdul Kareem Firdaus.
A number of staff runners went into extreme mode. Dr. Voon ran a marathon, Mohd Zakey did a half marathon while
Miss Ardiana ran 15 km. The closing ceremony was officiated by Dr. Margaret, while Mr. Mohd Farid gave away the medals.
