The introduction of mobile apps allows participants to conveniently track their NYAA journey,
resulting in reduced administrative workload, increased accessibility, and improved facilitation for
teachers coordinating the NYAA Programme in schools and the NYAA Secretariat.
Moreover, the mobile apps empower participants to take ownership of their progress and monitor
it in real time. This technological advancement also enables flexible participation in the NYAA
program, which has proven invaluable during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Leadership Development for the Future
Recognising the evolving and diverse job market that awaits young people, the NYAA has launched
leadership development programs. These initiatives go beyond conventional books and syllabuses,
offering workshops on leadership training, elevator pitches, and presentation skills.
These programs aim to guide participants' personal growth and development through experiential
learning and exposure. By equipping young individuals with these essential skills, they become
more confident and adept at navigating their communities and workplaces.
Although activities and training programs have been temporarily put on hold or conducted
virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our commitment to preparing young people for the future
remains unwavering.
Promoting a Healthy Mind and Body
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought significant disruptions, with young people confined to their
homes and engaging in home-based learning. This new arrangement has increased stress levels
for many individuals who miss the social interactions they once enjoyed.
The NYAA Council works closely with government agencies and partners to address mental
wellness and healthy living challenges. Award participants are encouraged to engage in physical
activities within safety management restrictions while maintaining proper diets to foster fitness
and overall well-being. We firmly believe that a healthy mind and body are crucial for effective
community service.
Integration Between the Young and the Elderly
Recognising the projected doubling of elderly Singaporeans by 2030 and the need for increased
support for older people, the NYAA Council aims to strengthen and promote active ageing. This
involves encouraging participants to initiate community projects that raise awareness and improve
the relationship between young and older individuals.
Furthermore, bridging the digital divide for older people becomes imperative as society transitions
into the digital age. To this end, the NYAA Gold Award Holders' Alumni and participants are
encouraged to develop active ageing programmes that support senior individuals, enabling them
to remain socially active and connected to society during their twilight years. Through these
community bonding projects and activities, we can foster care, compassion, and understanding
among the youth, enhancing the quality of life for older people.
