NYAA Junior Programme – The Butterfly Award

The NYAA Junior Programme, also known as The Butterfly Award, has undergone refinement in
collaboration with the Ministry of Education for primary three to primary six students. This
programme aims to provide young students with holistic development across four key domains:

                       • Service Learning (Learning to Serve),
                       • Outdoor Appreciation (One with Nature),
                       • Healthy Living (Health is Wealth), and
                       • Family Bonding (Meaningful Interactions)

The NYAA launched a pilot project involving ten schools and organisations; however, due to the
COVID-19 pandemic, many activities could not be completed as planned. Consequently, these
activities were temporarily put on hold until the situation normalised.

The Butterfly Award was officially launched by President Halimah Yacob at the NYAA 30th
Anniversary Celebration on 27 October 2022, with the participation of the ten pilot schools and
organisations. As the post-COVID-19 pandemic continues to normalise, the NYAA will closely
collaborate with primary schools to implement and carry forward the Butterfly Award programme.

We are committed to providing young students enriching experiences and opportunities for
personal growth, fostering their sense of responsibility, appreciation for nature, healthy habits,
and meaningful connections within their families. Through collaboration and dedication, we aim
to ensure the successful implementation of the Butterfly Award across primary schools,
empowering our young students to develop into well-rounded individuals.
