         Zone Management
         Lesson 4 00:05
        Overview
Have you ever watched young kids play soccer? Essentially, everyone just chases the ball:
It’s our natural instinct: we see the ball and we want it. But as we age and hone our skills, we learn that it can be more
effective to work as a team. Mature soccer players apply something called “zone defense” whereby each player is
responsible for a specific zone of the field:
Now think of how this applies to your restaurant. When multiple managers are working, who owns each “zone”? Is one
manager taking ownership of the lounge, the bar, and expo, while another owns the dining room, the front door and
washrooms? This helps to ensure that we don’t have 2 managers in the same place, which is inefficient in most
situations. If 2 managers are both on expo, who’s watching the rest of the restaurant?
                                                          front door
