The Revolution of Imam Hussein
Mahatma Ghandi (1869 -1948), the Indian and spiritual
leader said: “I learned from Hussein how to achieve
victory by being oppressed. I looked carefully through
Imam Hussein’s life, the biggest Muslim martyr, and
looked carefully to holy Karbala, it appeared to me that
India can achieve victory when it follows Imam Hussein”
(8).
Edward Gibbon, the English historian, said: “In the
history of Islam especially the life of Imam Hussein stands
unique and unapproachable by anyone. Without his
martyrdom, Islam would have extinguished long ago. He
was the savior of Islam and it was due to his martyrdom
that Islam took such deep root” (9).
Iqbal, the poet ,(1876 -1938), says: Imam Hussein
weltered in blood and dust for the sake of truth, and
Moi‘nuddin Cheshti says: Imam Hussein gave away his
head but did not put his hand into the hands of Yazid
(10).
Antoine Bara (1943…), in his book “Hussein in Christian
ideology” said: “No battle in the modern and past history
of mankind has earned more sympathy and admiration
as well as provided more lessons than the martyrdom of
Hussein in the battle of Karbala” (11).
Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru (1889- 1964), said: “Hussein’s
sacrifice for all groups, and communities, is an example of
the path of righteousness.”
