have honored the children of Adam” (1). Imam Hussein’s
suffering was to bring back this honor to the children of
Adam. He was the symbol of peace and justice. He called
for the implementation of peace, love, justice, freedom
and the respect of human rights.
Imam Hussein (as) inherited the movements of the
Messengers of Allah, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus (‘Isa),
and Muhammad (p). He was the light of guidance and the
ship of salvation. He was catering for every one in need
whether Muslim or non-Muslim. God sent the Prophet
Muhammad (p) as a mercy to the universe “And We have
not sent you but as a mercy to the worlds” (2). Imam
Hussein (as) wanted to show that mercy and justice of
Islam and revive the true Islam which was preached by
his grandfather Prophet Muhammad (p) not the religion
which was distorted and preached by the Umayyads who
deviated Muslims from truth.
Imam Hussein’s aim was to set people free from the
darkness of their souls, release them from the shackles
of slavery, open their hearts to the kingdom of their Lord
and to guide them to the right path of truth and virtue.
“Woe unto you! If you have no religion and do not fear
the Day of Judgment. Be open minded in your worldly
affairs as you have descended from a noble birth. Refrain
