from harming my tents (Rahl) and my family from your
rabble and ignorant persons” (3).
The tents were burnt and everything was looted. The
ladies of al-Imam
al-Hussein’s household were made captives, their
hands were bound behind their necks and they were
publicly exposed. This treatment clearly revealed that
the Umayyads did not want only to murder al- Imam
al-Hussein (as) but they wanted to destroy and humiliate
(Ahl-ul-Bait) whom Allah purified from all defilement
(danas) in the eyes of the masses.
“The conflict between Imam Hussein (as) and Yazid
was not personal, but purely religious and Islamic. Imam
Hussein’s words can explain his principles. His banner did
not go down on the battle field of Karbala and was never
lowered. It can still be seen now so high on the land of
Karbala and carried on the shoulders of anyone devoted
to truth. As long as the name of Islam lasts and truth and
righteousness exist the banner of Imam Hussein (as) will
mount high in the world and will remain so forever” (4).
His cause is immortal and his blood is still running in
the veins of the Muslims throughout history, narrating
the lessons of justice, equity, love, peace, moral, dignity,
