Milk out all the slack and bury the ends as shown, cutting and removing any
core or cover tails.
Apply a tight whipping over the joint.
Due to the nature of this splice, some of the core will show at the marriage.
You might wonder whether this splice has any real strength but, in fact, it does,
due to the Chinese finger-puzzle effect described in chapter 8. Remember, too,
that so far this splice has been used only with light-duty fishing gear, where it
seems to work well. As this rope gains increasing acceptance, stronger, more
sophisticated splicing techniques will evolve.
