Push one tapered end into the hollow of the fid or affix it tightly to the splicing
tool, as described for the eye splice at the beginning of this chapter.
Measure 10 inches (250 mm) from the other working end and insert the
splicing tool at this point, easing it up to the hollow core of the standing part for
10 inches (250 mm).
Bring the tool back out through the braid, trim the end close, and tuck the
strand ends back into the braid and out of sight.
Repeat for the other tail, inserting the splicing tool as shown in the drawing.
The splice will hold in use and is similar to the Chinese finger puzzle principle
described for the eye splice in this chapter.
