TOOLS & MATERIALS
Eight-plait rope (2 pieces)
Swedish fid
Vinyl tape
Marking pen
Waxed whipping twine
Seize each rope tightly at the ninth or tenth pick. Mark both right-laid strand
pairs or both left-laid strand pairs from the bitter end of each rope to about the
sixteenth pick. Remove the tape or heat-sealed tips at the working ends, and
unlay the strand pairs, leaving the twist in each strand. Tape the strand pairs at
their ends, taking care that they do not become twisted together.
Align the ropes end to end. To marry the ropes, lace a painted pair of strands
from the right-hand rope through the corresponding painted pair on the other
rope, as shown in the illustration.
