REDUCED VOLUME END-TO-END SPLICE
Kim Houghton, owner of Rig-Rite, Inc., introduced me to this splice. Some
sailboat roller-furler mechanisms require an endless loop of line for
operation, and sometimes the endless-loop splice built using the
manufacturer’s recommended method is too bulky to reeve through the
furler drum. The splice shown here has a 50 percent smaller cross section
than the standard splice. Its strength is also reduced by 50 percent, but it
remains strong enough for the purpose.
