Core disappears into coat at X.
Attach the slip knot to a sturdy hook, or have an assistant hold it. Smooth the
coat from the knot toward the splice until the whole core is enveloped by the
coat, taking special care around the eye. Detach the slip knot from the hook, and
attach the eye there instead.
Pull tightly both the standing part of the rope and the coat tail (from the R to
the working end) toward you.
Apply a tight layer of tape around the throat for a distance equal to one short
fid length.
Apply a tight whipping over the tape (see chapter 13).
Cut the tail close.
