ring loud in my memory as I’ve continued to
take difficult stands as a Christian — stands
that have often offended and/or alienated
family members.
I lost some respect for that pastor after
that conversation because he had no biblical
grounds for excluding relationships with
family from the clear exhortations in verses
such as Ephesians 5:11, 2 Corinthians 6:14
and 17, and 1 Corinthians 5:11, and he
conveyed an unwillingness on his part to
sacrifice all that is dear to him, if necessary,
in order to be loyal to Christ and obedient to
God’s Word. I also came to somewhat of a
crossroad in my Christian life as a result of
that discussion, and I concluded that the
