Holy Spirit brings conviction of sin and
salvation to a person’s heart, and that can
happen at any time that a person hears
God’s Word and understands and believes
God’s way of salvation, whether it be
through a pastor’s sermon or just an
“ordinary” Christian communicating God’s
Word in conversation or in a Bible study. To
associate a person’s salvation with a
response to a “scheduled” altar call is
implying that mere men control when the
Holy Spirit saves a person.
The believers on the Day of Pentecost and in
the New Testament church made an
informed, thought-through decision to
become a Christian based upon their faith in
God’s Word that was preached to them by
