Once a prescription has been generated and consultation notes are completed the doctor can close the
consultation by clicking submit. If a prescription has been generated clicking this will send an automated
message to the patient advising them that their prescription has been sent by post to their address.
For any prescription that are sent by fax. The doctor should send a message to the patient. This should state that
the prescription has been sent to the specific pharmacy and address. Please send a hard copy of any prescription
sent by fax to a pharmacy by post to the pharmacy in question. It is the responsibility of the prescribing doctor
to ensure this is completed.
Policy on consulting with pediatrics:
We do not offer online consultations to children under the age of 18 years unless in exceptional circumstances.
Policy of prescribing benzodiazapines or hypnotics:
We do not encourage to prescribing of hypnotics or benzodiazepine unless in exceptional circumstances. This
should be for a very short course and the prescribing doctor must explain the risks associated with these
medications.
Prescribing policy on controlled drugs and opiates.
Doctors are encouraged not to prescribe opiates or controlled drugs via MyClinic.ie.
Policy on refunds:
For patients that are unhappy with the service or who have certain expectations that cannot be met by a video
consultation it can be appropriate to offer a refund. Please advise the patients of this but that it can take up to
48 hours to process.
Policy on medical certification:
If a doctor feels medical certification for work is appropriate for a patient, they can provide a medical certificate
to the patient. MyClinic.ie does not provide social welfare certification for patients. Short duration of
certification (ie. < 1 week) is appropriate. For patients who may need longer medical certification it is appropriate
to direct them for a face to face consultation with their own General practitioner. The hard copy of the medical
certificate should be sent by post to the patient’s address. A copy can be sent by email to the patient if requested
by the patient.
Antibiotic prescribing:
It is important that appropriate antibiotic prescribing guidelines are adhered to.

If a doctor feels that treatment with an antibiotic is appropriate, then a prescription for the treatment should
be provided to the patient. This can be posted to the patient’s address or it can be faxed to a pharmacy
nominated by the patient.
