It is important to explain to a patient that there may be an increased risk of an incorrect diagnosis without a face
to face consultation. It should also be made clear to the patient that any failure to improve or deterioration
should prompt the patient to see a doctor for a face to face consultation.
If the doctor does not feel they have enough information to reach an accurate diagnosis, they should direct the
patient to see a doctor for a face to face consultation. If the patient is unhappy the doctor can offer a refund to
the patient.
Delayed prescriptions.
It can be appropriate to provide a delayed prescription for medications to a patient with specific instructions on
when to take and how.
Ensuring privacy
It is the responsibility of the consulting doctor to ensure all consultations are conducted in private areas where
other individuals cannot see or hear the online consultation. This includes the home where children or others
should not be present in the room with the doctor when engaging with consultations. The same standards of
Data Protection apply to online consultations. All confidential information held by a doctor should be disposed
of in the appropriate way (ie. Shredding).
It is important that any computer or device used to engage with patients on the MyClinic.ie platform has
appropriate anti-virus and anti-malware software. It is the responsibility of the consulting doctor to ensure the
protection is adequate.
