which are symbols of hope. The body of the house is made of thick boards and the back wall is
covered with lizard carvings.
2. Dance The Batak tribe has a traditional dance art called tor-tor. The tor-tor dance consists of
several types, namely: a. Pangurdot: The limbs that move are the feet, heels and shoulders. b.
Pangeal: The limbs that move are the waist, spine and shoulders. c. Pandenggal: The limbs that
move are the arms, palms and middle fingers. d. Siangkupna: The limb that moves is only the neck.
e. Hapunana: The limbs that move i.e. only the face.
3. Musical art The Batak tribe has a distinctive musical art called ogung sabangun. In singing this
music, accompanied by four drums and five taganing (Batak gamelan). The ogung drums have
their own names, namely oloan, ihutan, doal, and jeret. The art of ogung sabangun music is often
used to accompany the tor-tor dance. The combination of the two arts is divided into four types of
dances, namely: a. Early tor-tor/gondang: This dance is performed by worshiping while rotating
in the direction of the wind. b. Tor-tor/gondang mangido pasu-pasu: This dance shows dancing
hands and means advice, advice, and parental messages. c. Tor-tor/gondang clay-liat: The dance
is done by dancing around which signifies the family gets happiness. d. Tor-tor/gondang
hasahatan: Dance is performed by dancing in a place that has the meaning of advice or God's grace.
4. Arts and crafts Batak tribe has a variety of crafts. A fairly well-known craft is ulos cloth. This
fabric has various types seen from its function, namely: a. Ulos lobu-lobu is the father's ulos for
the son and daughter-in-law at their wedding. b. Ulos hela is a gift from the bride's parents. c. Ulos
tondi is the ulos that parents give to their daughter when she is pregnant. d. Ulos tujung is ulos for
widows or widowers. e. Ulos Saput is ulos covering the corpse of the deceased's uncle if the
deceased is a male.
Batak traditional house
The traditional Batak Toba house is called Rumah Bolon, it is rectangular in shape and can
be inhabited by 5 to 6 families. To enter the house we have to climb the stairs located in the middle
of the house, with various odd steps. If people want to enter the Toba Batak house, they must bow
their heads so they don't hit the transverse beam. This means that visitors must respect the owner
of the house.
