                   SEX EDUCATION

and its importance to children with intellectual disabilities

       Introduction

       Written by Hannah Maisarah

Sexual identity can be defined as one's
awareness towards his or her sexuality
and act in a manner that is appropriate
to it. Every individual is born with their

own gender regardless of with orwithout
       intellectual disability. We, the society
       always assume individuals with
       intellectual disabilities are inhuman or
that they were fond of sex for which they
could control their sexuality. But have it
ever crossed your mind that they did MORE GREAT STORIES
                                                                      NEXT PAGE:
not know where, when and in which
       situations sexual behaviours were
       appropriate?

       Intellectual disabilities in the perception
of sex education are individuals with
       disabilities to comprehend the right
situation when and where their sexual
needs and desires should be express.
         Just like individuals with sexual

abilities, they also have sexual needs
       and desires. Unfortunately, children
with the disabilities also have the same
needs but are unable to act
       appropriately to satisfy the needs.
