Inspection
Equipment to Inspect Before Installation
Universal Joint between Upper and Lower Shafts
The Universal Joint on the shaft has been lubricated but before installing the units confirm it is
lubricated well. Be sure to use Moly Grease specifically designed for high friction applications.
1) Select either Mobilgrease Special 4ZF44 with Molybdenum or Moto Master Extreme
Pressure Grease for U-Joints.
2) Using a needle injector on a grease gun fill the rubber boot around the Universal Joint ¾ full
with grease.

3) Compress and massage the outside of the boot to force the lubricant into the joint.
Note: The Universal Joint should be lubricated every 2 months or ever 25,000 cars, whichever
comes first. Failure to do so will lead to joint failure.
4) Then remove the two set screws on the Universal Joint, apply anti-seize and reinstall them.
The anti-seize will make the screws easier to remove at a later date if necessary.
