Air Panel & Air Cushion Installation
How to Use
The Air Cushion is meant to be active whenever the top wheel is washing a car. It can be used
in combination with the counter weights to dictate the penetration of the top wheel on the
vehicle.
When the Air Cushion is activated the wheel penetration can be adjusted right at the top wheel
by adjusting the regulator mounted to the passenger side Leg Assembly. More air pressure will
result in less penetration, less wear on the top wheel components and less potential for vehicle
damage. If the Air Cushion pressure is set too high it will be obvious since the top wheel will not
make contact with the vehicle.
If the top wheel is plumbed to be in the up position all of the time, program the “on positions” of
the functions properly so the top wheel comes all the way down, and THEN the Air Cushion
engages.
If the top wheel gets heavier, increase the Air Cushion pressure. If it gets heavy enough that the
Air Cushion is above 60 psi to get desired and safe penetration, some counter weight should be
added then proceed to use the Air Cushion as normal.
Counter Weight Installation
Things to Know
The Counter Weights are added to the end of the Arm Assemblies to off-set the weight of the
ShineMitt™ cleaning material and the Motor/Gearbox Assembly. Since the Motor/Gearbox
Assembly is typically on the driver side, there will be more weights added to that side to prevent
torque motion during operation or when making contact with the positive stops.
The fewer counter weights used, the more weight (penetration) will be applied to the vehicle
surface during operation. Below are examples of typical configurations.
Note: It is imperative to maintain the vehicle washing weight of the TopWinder® Cleaning Wheel.
Use the weighing instructions in the Startup section with the supplied fish scale periodically
to check your wheel penetration. Adjust counter weights as necessary to stay within 18-25
lbs. of penetration.
