Every year the BMTC are invited to join in the
city of Manchester’s St. Georges day parade.
Growing in popularity each year, our dogs
bring great pleasure to the crowds who line
the streets to applaud and meet them. And
who could forget the fantastic Manchester
Mooch! Started 5 years ago on Formby beach,
there are now 9 groups throughout GB holding
regular get togethers. We welcome all with or
without an MT and regularly have prospective
MT owners coming along to see the breed and
what better way than to see them zooming
and playing together, everyone agrees that

I had been very ill and was told by the doctor
that I should go for a walk every day. I was
nervous about walking alone and thought maybe
we should get a dog. At the time we had 5
cats. We set about it clinically. It had to be
short coated, dry mouthed and not too big. I
wanted a terrier. Peter had owned a black and
tan dog once. We eliminated Dobermans and
Bull Terriers; the latter very reluctantly on my
part, finally deciding on a Manchester Terrier.
This was back in the 1970s, no WWW. We
eventually went to Crufts. I sat and watched
the Bull Terriers and Peter the Manchesters.
Eventually, and it took a very long time, we
found one for sale in Wiltshire. We bought him

breed that lasted for the rest of Peter’s life.
The very first independent Open Show held
by the British Manchester Terrier Club was
held in the Coventry area in the 1970’s and
we were asked to bring our dog along to boost
the numbers. We came last in every class,
but for some reason we were not just hooked
on the breed but showing as well. Peter used
to give me cash when he went on his travels
just in case there was an emergency. One
week Windsor dog show was on and I went,
just as a spectator of course, with the money
burning a hole in my pocket and bought another
