The Heartfulness Essay Event 2020
The Heartfulness Essay Event is one of the flagship annual events of the partnership between the United Nations
Information Centre for India and Bhutan (UNIC) and Shri Ram Chandra Mission (SRCM), and 2020 marks the 28th
year since itsinception. It is an initiative to provide an opportunityfor young minds from
all socio-economic backgrounds to express their views. In a society where our youth
face immense competition, the event is designed to encourage their potential to
shine. This year alone, more than 30,000 students across 5,000 institutions participat-
ed in the event. It is a unique competition, not only in its scale but also because it
encourages students to develop their thought processes through deliberation and
discussion. For the 2020 edition both Education World and Parents World are associ-
ated with the event as outreach partners, ensuring that teachers, students and
parents across the country are made aware of the same.
The format
The Heartfulness Essay Event has two levels – the national level and the state level. Entries are invited in English and
Hindi at the national level, and nine regional languages at the state level - Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam,
Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil and Telugu.
The Heartfulness Institute is gearing up for the event in 2021 to be even bigger, bolder and better. The idea is to
continue to inspire young minds for generations to come.

About Heartfulness
Heartfulness offers a simple set of meditative practices and lifestyle changes, first developed at the turn of the twenti-
eth century and formalized into a teaching through Shri Ram Chandra Mission in 1945 in India. These practices are a
modern form of Yoga designed to support contentment, inner calm and stillness, compassion, courage, and clarity of
thought, as the first step towards a purposeful life. They are simple and easily adopted and are appropriate for people
from all walks of life, cultures, religious beliefs and economic situations, who are over the age of fifteen. Ongoing
training in the Heartfulness practices is going on at thousands of schools and colleges, and over 100,000 professionals
are meditating in corporations, non-governmental and government bodies worldwide. More than 5,000 Heartfulness
Centres are supported by many thousands of certified volunteer trainers in 160 countries
