STORY
ABOVE An adult male tracked
by KORA returns to a roe deer
he killed in the Swiss Alps the
day before. Larry, as he is known
to researchers, visited the
carcass every night to feed and
after four or five days very little
remained. His large paws act
like snowshoes and help him to
move through the deep snow.
LEFT An unknown eight month
old lynx walks past a chamois
kill while following his mother
(out of shot in the forest) in
the Swiss Alps in January. The
youngster will leave her in April
to find his own territory – a
crucial moment in his life. At
first he will hunt smaller prey
such as foxes and hares, but will
need to take down roe deer and
chamois to survive long-term.
