STORY
ABOVE These three kittens were
born at the beginning of June in
the Swiss Alps in a hidden place,
after a 72-day gestation period.
When they are about nine weeks
old they will follow their mother
(B123) for the first time to feed
on a kill. The youngsters will
become independent after the
mating season in April.
RIGHT B158 drinks from a
waterhole. Eurasian lynx can be
identified by their spot markings.
Biologists are studying the wild
cats to preserve the species and
minimise conflict between the
felines and people. Although the
Jura Mountains’ lynx population
is stable, habitat fragmentation,
poaching and traffic are a threat.
LAURENT
GESLIN has been
photographing
European lynx for a decade. He
is currently filming the elusive
cats for a documentary. Find out
