Ambulance Requests
In the event of a medical emergency, call 911. Tell them that it is an emergency call. Then, give them the company
name, address and nature of the injury and location of the victim.
Fire Alarm
Staff Responsibilities
1. When a fire alarm sounds, begin to evacuate the building immediately using evacuation routes.
2. Instruct all occupants in the building to leave all belongings and other materials in their room. Close the door
before leaving the room.
3. Proceed to the designated exit as quickly as possible. Walk, do not run. If designated exit is blocked, proceed
to alternate exit. Always check doors for heat prior to entering any areas.
4. Building occupants should be instructed to stay a minimum of 150 feet from the building and not hamper the
Fire Department’s operations.
• In case of inclement weather, proceed to the alternate building for shelter and/or first aid. Your designated
alternate building is posted adjacent to your evacuation route.
• Do not attempt to re-enter the building until the Fire Department allows re-entry.
5. The elevator should not be used in the event of an evacuation or fire drill.
6. Persons with disabilities who have limited mobility and are not located on the first floor of the building should
be assisted by facility staff to the stairwell landing. If there is imminent danger, facility staff will assist the
disabled person down the stairs in a safe manner.
• For people in wheelchairs, several people must carry the individual down the exit stairs. This is usually only
possible when the person is in a manual wheelchair. If the person is in a heavy powered wheelchair, he/she
will probably have to be carried down separately from his/her chair.
• It is important to always ask the disabled person how you can help before attempting any rescue technique.
Ask how they can be moved, and if there are any special considerations or items that need to come with
them. Proper lifting techniques (e.g. bending the knees, keeping the back straight, etc.) should be used to
avoid injury to rescuers.
Fire Extinguisher Instructions: P-A-S-S
• PULL safety pin from handle.
• AIM (nozzle, cone, and horn) at base of fire.
• SQUEEZE the trigger handle.
• SWEEP from side to side (watch for re-flash).
How to Extinguish Small Fires
Class A – Extinguish ordinary combustibles by cooling the material below its ignition temperature and soaking the
fibers to prevent re-ignition. Use pressurized water, foam or multipurpose (ABC-rated) dry chemical extinguishers. DO
NOT USE carbon dioxide or ordinary (BC-rated) dry chemical extinguishers on Class A fires.
Class B – Extinguish flammable liquids, greases, or gases by removing the oxygen, preventing the vapors from
reaching the ignition source, or inhibiting the chemical chain reaction. Foam, carbon dioxide, ordinary (BC-rated) dry
chemical, multipurpose dry chemical, and halon extinguishers may be used to fight Class B fires.
