The 5 Pillars of Responsible Sport

      WORLD U18

                        Planning & Communications

Producing events responsibly requires smart planning, accurate measurement and effective
                        communication

                         Procurement

Understanding the impacts of purchasing decisions enables healthier choices, including focusing on
local, regional and sustainable products and resources

Managing energy and waste in a responsible way is one of the biggest challenges events and organizers
face, especially considering the current and expected impacts of worldwide climate change. This reality
calls for increased focus on waste diversion, energy conservation, use of renewable energy sources and
maximizing alternative transportation, along with calculation and analysis of the event’s carbon footprint

                         Access & Equity

Improving equality goes hand-in-hand with our ability to live in a peaceful, productive and healthy
society. Sporting events provide the ideal platform to unite diverse groups, especially by increasing
access among historically underrepresented groups and setting a positive example for youth

Aside from providing an economic boost to host cities, large-scale sporting events hold special potential to
unite diverse groups and create new pathways to civic pride

          Initiatives & Recommendations

The following is a summary of relevant initiatives, based on reported results by the LOC and its partners, and the
Council site visit observations; and recommended continual improvement points organized beneath the Council’s
‘5 pillars’ of responsible sports events. Note the colored numbers (e.g 1.1) refer to the 4.2 Responsible Sport
Guidebook, provided separately from this report.
