EDITORIAL BOARD
The Council for Responsible Sport (Council) is an Oregon-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide
objective, independent verification of the socially and environmentally responsible work event organizers are doing, and to
Nairobi 2017 actively support event organizers who strive to make a difference in their communities.
IAAF World Under 18 Championships The Council focuses on cooperative solutions and has worked with more than 150 unique events in nine countries since it
was founded in 2008. In service to the vision of a world where responsibly produced sports events are the norm, the Council
offers three primary programs —Engage, Certify and Inspire-- all of which are based on five key ‘pillars’ of the responsible
sport concept.
Engage Program Report In April 2017, the Council was hired by IAAF in a consulting capacity to implement the Council’s Engage program (see
Appendix A) with the LOC in Nairobi. The intention of our collaboration was to focus on their legacy project, with an eye
Council for Responsible Sport and the IAAF to existing sustainability initiatives and recommendations for the future. A broader objective is for the newly refurbished
Kasarani Stadium to serve as a host site for additional events of international caliber in the future.
Video conference calls served as the primary form of ongoing communication, with a site visit in June 13 through 15, 2017
by Council for Responsible Sport board member and advising consultant, Dian Vaughn, of Green Events, Int.
