I always set a target for every project I get into. I do my best and pull all the stops to achieve this
goal. Then, I always set a slightly higher target than the one I previously made. This ensures that
my business is growing every time a new venture has begun.
1. You are inviting a potential partner to work with you on an importing proj-
ect. Emphasize the points below as you try to convince your potential part-
ner to work with you.
a. big returns
b. great growth potential
Sample answer:
Good morning, Mr. Tzu! Thanks for coming to this meeting. I hope that you will be encouraged
to venture into the importing business after our talk. You see, the importing business may be
a little intimidating at first because of the larger scope that exporters like us are not used to.
However, all these are worth it considering the big returns that the business will give. Plus,
once you have penetrated the importing business, so many doors will be open to you. This
importing project will just be the first step towards an ever-growing business.
2. You are a veteran in the importing business and you have been invited by
your friend who wants to know more about the nature of importing. Give
your friend a bird’s eye view of the goings on in the importing business. Be
sure to include the points below in giving your friend some bits of advice.
a. Investment
b. Connections in the business world
Sample answer:
Hello Tim! I’m glad that you have finally taken my advice and tried to start a new business in
importing. Don’t worry, all your efforts will pay off if you do everything right. I hope that my
advice will somehow help you as you start with your importing business. One thing you have
to know about is the range of investment you have to turn in. For your first project, you may
have to turn in quite a big investment, but this is normal because you’re just starting. All the
profit will go around once you’ve started. Be sure too that you have some more back up funds
in case you run out of investment for your first project. Don’t worry because importing deals
usually yield big profits. You just have to be patient. Next, you should establish ties with the
people you’ll meet. You need to have lots of connections in order to survive in the importing
business. Treasure these ties and always look into the possibility of making business with these
people. That’s all for now, Tim, and I wish you the best of luck.
