            Types of medical jobs

Medical jobs can be divided into 2 categories: training post, which is recognised as part of

training, or trust post, which is to provide service for the NHS. The latter usually doesn’t count
for your training . Training jobs are offered through open competition at regional levels . For
example, if you are considering an anaesthetic training job in London, you need to apply it
through London deanery biannually . Trust jobs are advertised and recruited by individual NHS
hospitals at any time of the year .

Does it make financial sense to become a doctor in the UK?

The following table gives an example of pay scale of NHS doctors in 2019 . This doesn't include

extra pay that you are entitled to if you work unsociable hours including on-call duties . After 2
years foundation and 7 years anaesthetic training, you are looking at an annual salary of £79,860
as a first-year consultant. It might be a shock for anyone who expects a big pay check being an
        anaesthetist .

        Doctors salary range:
         Level Salary
         FY1 £27,689
         FY2 £32,050

         Specialist Training £37,935-48,075
         Speciality Doctors £40,037-74,661
         Consultants £79,860-107,668
         GPs £56,133-92,401

            Can anyone avoid PLAB examinations?

Yes, you probably can . There are many job vacancies in individual NHS hospitals . These
jobs will be advertised on British Medical Journal careers and NHS job websites . If you have
good English proficiency and medical skills, you might get a non-training job with no great
difficulties. The first step is to register with GMC, as it is required for anyone who wants to
practice medicine in the UK . The good news is that the government is to relax immigration
rules on overseas doctors to reflect that fact that NHS hospitals have difficulties in recruiting
and retaining doctors and nurses from European countries due to Brexit . I hope that I have
convinced you enough to work for NHS, even the pay scale is much lower than that of
        anaesthesiologists in the USA .
