SUMMARY
NARCISSIST PERSONALITY DISORDER: DIAGNOSTIC PROPOSAL
IN VIEW OF PSYCHOANALYSIS
This work aims to satisfy the expectation of the World Health Organization,
WHO, in the sense of studying and clarifying the nature and the status of Narcissist
Personality Disorder, which appears as provisory category in the tenth revision of the
International Classification of Diseases, ICD-10.
The psychoanalytic knowledge has secure place of research in the
psychopathology field, particularly in the extent of the Personality Disorders, as it can
be verified in the Nrcissist Personality Disorder. The contemporary psychoanalytic
literature presents a more ample spectrum of clinical charts of the Narcissist Personality
Disorder than the type observed in the official classifications, DSM-IV and ICD-10. I
denominate the most ample spectrum of the category by continuum Insensible-Sensitive
Narcissists. Kernberg described and treated the patients with Narcissist Personality
Disorder of the Insensible type, whereas Kohut described and researched the patients of
the Sensitive type.
The principal contribution of this communication is the proposal of enlargement
of the DSM-IV and CID-10 diagnostic criteria, which correspond only to the dimention
of the Insensible Narcissists described and investigated by Kernberg, to include all the
continuum of the spectrum of the narcissist patients, thus adding Kogut´s contributions
with clinical description and research of the dimention of the Sensitive Narcissists.
Uniterms: Narcissist Personality Disorder, Diagnosis, Psychoanalysis.
