HANGING BRIDGES, CITY PARK AND SAKURA GARDEN IN PAKRUOJIS
The city park – a place for events and recreation, co-
vering the area of 14 ha, was established in the Kruo-
ja Valley in 1974. After organising the national wood-
carving plein air in 1987, the park was adorned with
wooden sculptures. Visit the beautiful valley of the
river Kruoja, take a walk on the hanging bridges con-
necting its banks. These hanging bridges of Pakruojis
are among the most beautiful and interesting hanging
bridges in Lithuania. We invite you to come to Pakruo-
jis park in May and admire the flowering of Japanese
sakuras.

RAGINĖNAI MOUND CALLED RAGANOS HILL
Mysterious Raginėnai Mound, also called Raganos Hill
(The Hill of Witches), stands in the Daugyvenė Cultural
History Museum-Reserve located in the eastern part
of the district, next to the road Šiauliai-Panevėžys. Le-
gends tell that once hags lived here and witches spre-
ad with devils, arranged devils’ weddings. According
to other legends, the mound was poured with handfuls
of Swedish troops.

GIRNIKAI SACRED HILL
Girnikai mythological hill is one of the most valuable
and most visited exceptional values of Kurtuvėnai Re-
gional Park with the most popular observation plat-
form in the regional park. It is the highest hill in the
territory of Šiauliai district (183,4 m), overlooking the
panorama of Kurtuvėnai regional park, Samogitian hi-
ghlands, the city of Šiauliai, and the towns of Kuršėnai
and Kurtuvėnai. Stories tell that Girnikai sacred hill is
the tomb of the giants’ mother Kurtuovė; church lost
in the hill and the stone on the top of the hill, on which
the holy fire used to burn, are mentioned. The moun-
tain united three Baltic tribes: Samogitians, Curonians,
and Semigallians.
