My experience now at VCU is pretty similar to what I would like my experience to be. I only wish that I
could have more opportunities to meet students from the other schools (medical, dental, nursing, etc).

What has your experience been here at VCU?
My experience here at VCU has been indescribable. I am so thrilled to be part of such a wonderful and
diverse community. Every day I see people of many different cultures and backgrounds and I cannot
express how amazing it is to walk everywhere and feel the unity among us.

What would you like your experience to be here at VCU?
I would like for my experience here at VCU to grow and continue to teach me more about myself and
other cultures.

Vanessa Mitchell
What has your experience been here at VCU?
My undergraduate experience was incredibly diverse and exciting. I have found that the School of
Medicine is the complete 180° of my college experience here; however, despite the challenges to
diversity here, I have tried to make every obstacle l encounter a learning and teaching experience for my
peers, who may not have experience with people from varying backgrounds. That being said, I believe
that as we take the time to discuss those difficult topics we learn more about the people that differ from
us.

What would you like your experience to be here at VCU?
In the end I hope to have exposed some of [my] colleagues to backgrounds with which they were not
previously familiar. In the same respect, I would like to continue learning about people who are unlike
me. I plan to serve a diverse patient population so the more I learn about different people the better I
will be able to care for my patients in the future.

What has your experience been here at VCU?
I have had a great experience at VCU with great opportunity to learn & grow since starting my CLS
program, I have learned a great amount of material including the exposure to the field and my growing
set of skills. I have also been able to grown from the program through all of the student and faculty I
have met & learned from. Being a part of the [SCIE] ambassador program has also been another great
opportunity for me to meet others and learn.

What would you like your experience to be here at VCU?
I think that it would be neat if VCU had more interdisciplinary events across all the schools. I believe it
can be beneficial to learn about the other disciplines of the health fields, other than my own, whether it
is brief or about how the fields interconnect. The ambassador program was a great example of that and I
would hope to see more similar programs/events like it; or, if there are already some, possibly a way for
students to be more aware of their existence.
