EL - 6 Electrical system – electrical components
IN Normal troubleshooting
1. Power amount of fully charged battery decreases after a long time without use.
DI ● Reason:
A fully charged battery won’t lose its power gradually after not being used for a long time. This phenomenon
EG is called “spontaneous discharge”. The main cause of spontaneous discharge is the impurities contained in
materials. For example, if there are impurities in the electrode plate material or in the electrolyte solution, then
potential difference will be created between the impurities and electrode plates, as well as between the
TR
impurities, that locally forms a closed circuit current and discharge the battery.
● Solution:
AX
For the battery with serious spontaneous discharge, it may be discharge fully or overly, making the impurities
on the electrode plates get into the electrolyte solution. Then drain the electrolyte solution and wash the
FR
battery with distilled water. Finally, add in new electrolyte solution and recharge the battery.
2. Battery explosion
ST
● Reason:
The main causes of battery explosion include: in the case of overcharging a battery, the water of electrolyte
BR solution is being decomposed into hydrogen and oxygen, giving off bubbles; shortcircuit occurs inside the
battery; battery plate is vulcanized; electrolyte solution temperature rises rapidly during charging, which
makes a great amount of water evaporate, and if the vent holes on the solution adding plugs are blocked or
BW
there is too much gases without enough time to vent. When the pressure inside the battery reaches certain
extent (or there happens to be an ignition source), the battery will explode.
EL
● Solution:
a. Keep the vent holes unblocked.
b. The warnings on the electrode post shall be made firmly to prevent getting loose, which may cause sparks.
c. The charge amount shall be controlled. Do not overcharge the battery to control the amount of gas. Open
flame is prohibited inside the charge room and keep proper ventilation.
3. Fluid level getting down too fast during use of battery.
● Reason:
a. The charging current is too large, that makes water evaporate.
b. Cracks in the battery case.
● Solutions:
a. Check the generator and the control circuit of the generator.
b. Replace the battery.
Caution
Maintenance-free batteries are used in this vehicle type. Replace the battery if malfunction is found.
Never dismantle the batteries to avoid personal injuries. Only the professionals may dismantle the
batteries for the purpose of information collection to find causes of troubles.
