VEHICLE MAINTENNANCE - CHECK 05-19
CHECK TOOTHED TIMING BELT
1 . Switch off the ignition.
2 . Remove the timing belt. (refer to "Chapter 15 Engine Mechanical — Timing
Device,Timing Belt and guide rail, replacement")
3 . When checking the timing belt, replace it
with following situations:

• Check the elongation of the timing belt.
Measure the elongation of the chain in
three or more places with a spring scale,
and replace the timing belt if it exceeds
the limit.
• Measure the wear of the timing chain,
camshaft sprockets and inertia sprockets
with a vernier caliper. Replace the chain
or two sprockets when the limit is
exceeded.
• Measure the diameter of the timing chain,
camshaft sprockets and inertia sprockets
with a vernier caliper. Replace the chain
or two sprockets when the limit is
exceeded.
• When the chain is used for a long time, it
will appear elongation, abrasion, crack,
flaking, break etc. if it is damaged as
above, it will not be reused and should be
replaced.
4 . Install the timing belt. (refer to "Chapter 15 Engine Mechanical —Timing Device,
Timing Belt and guide rail, replacement")
