                 CHECK TOOTHED TIMING BELT

1 . Switch off the ignition.
2 . Remove the timing belt. (refer to "Chapter 15 Engine Mechanical — Timing
Device,Timing Belt and guide rail, replacement")

3 . When checking the timing belt, replace it
                                                                  with following situations:

                                                                NOTICE 05

                                                           • Check the elongation of the timing belt.
Measure the elongation of the chain in
three or more places with a spring scale,
and replace the timing belt if it exceeds
                                                                  the limit.
                                                           • Measure the wear of the timing chain,
                                                                  camshaft sprockets and inertia sprockets
with a vernier caliper. Replace the chain
or two sprockets when the limit is
                                                                  exceeded.
                                                           • Measure the diameter of the timing chain,
                                                                  camshaft sprockets and inertia sprockets
with a vernier caliper. Replace the chain
or two sprockets when the limit is
                                                                  exceeded.

4 . Install the timing belt. (refer to "Chapter 15 Engine Mechanical —Timing Device,
