Some words of encouragement to accept the
responsibility of mitzvot correctly. ןא ָּכִמ רֵהָּזִהְלוּ ,ויָשְׁכַע דַע וּנְלקְַל ּקִֶשּׁ הַמ ן ּקֵַתְל וּנְיַה ּדְ
.א ָּבַהְלוּ
There is yet another awesome matter that we give no thought to. ררֵוֹעְל דָחֶא ל ָּכ וּארְִי םֵהֶשׁ ,םידִרֲֵחַה תֶא ררֵוֹעְל רָקִּעָהְו
The gemara asks (Gemara Berachot 13a) “Why does the perashah
of “Shema Yisrael” \ “Hear O’Israel” precede the perashah of י ִּכ ,רוּסִּאָה לדֶֹּג תֶא םֵסרְַפְל וּארְִּיֶשׁ ,ויָע ָּדֻ יְמוּ וירָי ִּכַמ תֶא
“VeHayah” \ “And if you shall listen”? [Answer] In order that ה ָּדִמ ְּכ ןוֹשׁ ָּלַה תרַיִמְשׁ לֶשׁ רָב ָּדַה הָשֲׂעַנ לֵּגרְֶהַה ברֹ יֵנ ְּפִמ
one first accept upon himself Gd’s authority and then accept the
responsibility to observe the mitzvot. For this reason we then .אָמְלָע ְּב הָבוֹט
conclude (the Kriyat Shemah) with “It is true, and established and
correct…and His words are alive \ vibrant, and everlasting and ,וֹרוּסִּא לדֶֹּג תֶא םי ִּברַ ָּב י ִּתרְרַוֹעֶשׁ רַחַא ,יִנַלָאְשׁ דָחֶאְו
pleasant…on our fathers and on ourselves and on our children
and all of the generations that follow us.” This is a true and ,םִיַמָשַּׁל דַע ויָתוֹנוֲֹע לי ּדְִג ַּמֶשׁ ,):ו"ט ןיִכרֲָע( ל"ַזֲח וּרְמָאֶשׁ וֹמ ְּכ
sincere acceptance of the observance of the Torah and mitzvot. ה ָּמ ַּכ הֶז ןוָֹע לַע י ִּתרְַבָע י ִּכ ,י ִּתְעדַָי םַּג י ִּתְעדַָי :יִל רַמָאְו
However, when a person examines himself to see which are the .םָסְּיַפְלוּ ךְֵליֵל םָמְשׁ תֶא לָל ְּכ רֵכוֹז יִניֵאְו ,םיִמָע ְּפ תוֹאֵמ
mitzvot that he accepts upon himself to observe, whether they
are proactive \ positive mitzvot or prohibitive \ negative mitzvot, תוֹיְהִל אלֶֹּשׁ ,םיִשָׁנֲא ה ָּמ ַּכ וּדְמָל ,הרָוֹתּ ן ֶּב יִנֲאֶשׁ ,יִּנ ֶּמִמוּ
he can only recall very few of them, and in particular he does not ?ל ֹּכַה ןוֹדֲא יֵנְפִל תוֹצּרְַתִהְל לַכוּא ה ֶּמ ַּב .רָב ָּד ַּב םירִיִהְז
consciously think about those Laveen which are dependent on
the way man expresses himself each day. These are the mitzvot :)ח ַּלַשׁ ְּב אָמוּחְנ ַּת( ל"ַזֲח וּרְמָאֶשׁ ַעוּדָי ,הֶז לַע הָבוּשְׁתוּ
that are encountered every day and that require a great amount
of care, and yet he pays no attention to them and is not careful ן ֵּכ לַעְו .םי ִּצרְַתִמ וֹבּ ,םיִאְטוֹחֶשׁ רָב ָּד וֹתוֹא ְּב ,םיקִי ּדִַצ
to observe them. Is this binding obligation considered a real and םיקְִסוֹפַּה ירְֵפִס ךְוֹתִּמ םי ִּברַ ָּב וּלֵּא םיִנָיְנִע דֹמְלִל הֶארְִי
tangible acceptance if he accepts upon himself in his Tefilah each
day when he says (Devarim 11:13) “and it shall be that if you 'ז קרֶֶפ ְּב ם" ַּבְמרַָהֵמ וֹמ ְּכ( הֶז ןָיְנִע ְּב הָכָלֲה ךְרֶדֶ ְּב םירִ ְּבדְַמַה
listen to (observe) My mitzvot,” and yet he pays no attention to תַשׁרָָפ ְּב ךְוּנִּחַה רֶפֵס ךְוֹתִּמ וֹא ,א"י הֶשֲׂעַת אלֹ ְּב ג"ָמ ְּסַהְו ,תוֹעדֵ תוֹכְלִהֵמ
what it is that he accepts upon himself? Everything is revealed
before Him, whether (or not) man understands the mitzvot that ירֵוּסִּא רָאְשִּׁמ אוּה לֵפוֹנ אלֹ י ִּכ ,ןֵנוֹבְּתִיְו הֶארְִי םָשׁ ,)םיִשׁדֹקְ
