RESTORE THE RIVERS BACK TO FUTURE:
SUSTAINABLE DRAINAGE SYSTEM
ABSTRACT Poster
RESEARCH BACKGROUND
The research addresses the significance of river restoration and sustainable drainage
systems (SUDS) in urban settings, specifically in Hong Kong. It highlights the negative
impact of urbanization on rivers, emphasizing the need to restore the hydrological
system by reconnecting river routes. The optimal utilization of stormwater resources
also demonstrates for sustainable water management.
METHODOLOGY
The research utilizes geographic information system (GIS), historical maps, and HO YU KAN
photographs to understand the urbanization history of Kowloon. Literature review
of river restoration projects worldwide and local is conducted. Technical studies of BA (Hons) in Landscape Architecture
urban sustainable stormwater systems and landscape ecological principles inform the Department of Design and Architecture
design process. Case studies and assessments are used to evaluate proposed river
route plans.
FINDINGS
The research presents an integrated review of deculverting projects and an assessment OBJECTIVES
of river restoration in Hong Kong. Findings include adaptations of existing hydrological
systems, technical studies of urban sustainable stormwater systems, and the application
of landscape ecological principles. The findings contribute practical strategies, The research aims to propose a
