FEASIBILITY STUDY OF RELOCATABLE
    MODULAR INTEGRATED CONSTRUCTION

    IN FACILITATING PUBLIC RENTAL HOUSING

    REDEVELOPMENT

    ABSTRACT Poster

    RESEARCH BACKGROUND
The redevelopment of public rental housing (PRH) in Hong Kong has been facing
challenges because of the aging estates and the slow progress of the redevelopment.
This study aims to investigate the feasibility of using relocatable modular integrated
construction (MiC) as a temporary solution to facilitate the redevelopment process. LI CHUN HO

    METHODOLOGY

Methodologies include comprehensive literature review, desktop study, interviews, BSc (Hons) in Surveying
                                                                                 Department of Design and Architecture
with industry experts, and case studies.
    FINDINGS

Compare to the current practice, the redevelopment duration of PRH may be shortened
by using relocatable MiC as a temporary solution. However, the constraint may include
the tenants' concern about smaller unit sizes in MiC, this may require Hong Kong OBJECTIVES
Housing Authority to initiate lower rent or greater discounts on Home Ownership
Schemes. The cost-effectiveness of the proposed method may also be the downside. The research objectives include:
This study also analyzes MiC site selection, building design, and construction noise • identifying the difficulties and
issues, and provides possible solutions. challenges in PRH redevelopment,
The study concludes that the relocatable MiC has potential to expedite the redevelopment • examining tenants’ demands
of PRH. However, further research is needed to address structural design, cost analysis, • exploring the applicability of
and difficulties in relocation. relocatable MiC in terms of time,
