                                              RESEARCH BACKGROUND
The integration of advanced technologies into smart home systems has shown the
potential to enhance user interaction and system automation. Particularly, the ability
to interpret and respond to a user's needs in real-time remains a significant challenge.
KWOK KA KUEN This study explores the potential of using Sound Source Localization (SSL) and AI-
based sound recognition technologies to elevate the automation capabilities of smart
                                              homes.

    and Innovation METHODOLOGY
Department of Digital Innovation and The study implements an integrated system comprising SSL to pinpoint the origin
Technology of sounds within the home environment, and AI-driven algorithms to analyze these
sounds for user activity and state. The system processes this data to control smart
home devices such as lighting, and scenes to adapt user’s inferred needs.
    OBJECTIVES
                                              FINDINGS
The primary objective of this research The initial deployment of this system demonstrated a notable enhancement in the
is to develop a system that utilizes intelligence of smart home automation. The system exhibited high precision in sound
SSL and AI-based sound recognition source detection and was effective in interpreting user instructions accurately. This
to actively determine the user's state improvement elevated the overall smartness of home automation systems, making
                                              them more adaptive and user-centric.
