                                      Central Venous Device Care (CVD)



                               A catheter insertion report is required prior to initiating care
                               Dressing changes require sterile technique.
                               Dressing changes require use of face mask.
                               Never use a syringe smaller than 10 mL when flushing a central
                                 venous catheter.
                               Chlorhexidine/Alcohol (ChloroPrep®) is the CVD skin antisepsis
                                 standard.
                               Never blot, wave or blow to accelerate drying.
                               Alcohol and betadine can be substituted as skin prep cleansers for
                                 patients allergic to chlorhexidine and for children 2 months of age or
                                 younger.
