Central Venous Device Care (CVD)
A catheter insertion report is required prior to initiating care
Dressing changes require sterile technique.
Dressing changes require use of face mask.
Never use a syringe smaller than 10 mL when flushing a central
venous catheter.
Chlorhexidine/Alcohol (ChloroPrep®) is the CVD skin antisepsis
standard.
Never blot, wave or blow to accelerate drying.
Alcohol and betadine can be substituted as skin prep cleansers for
patients allergic to chlorhexidine and for children 2 months of age or
younger.
