• Use the transparent semi-permeable dressing of choice. • Use gauze under transparent dressing unless severe
diaphoresis or drainage (expect some drainage after
insertion).
• Use gauze dressings unless copious drainage, or
diaphoresis.
• Don mask.
• Have patient turn away from the site.
• Measure the length of external catheter from exit at SOC
and with each dressing change.
• Measure the arm circumference 10 cm above PICC catheter
exit site at SOC and with each dressing change.

Needleless Connector Change
Wash hands
Don clean gloves.
Utilize aseptic no touch technique throughout procedure.
Attach 10 mL syringe containing 0.9% NaCl to cap and flush the
connector until drops of saline are noted at end of cap. Remove
syringe.
Place connector aside.
Cleanse area at junction of catheter and connector with 70% alcohol
swab vigorously for 15—30 seconds.
Remove old connector and cleanse end with alcohol wipe. Allow to
dry.
Attach new connector.
