Communication
4.3 The radio and the radio equipment
The requirement for the pilot to be allowed to use the radio equipment is that
he has familiarized himself with how the equipment works.
This may be
equipment like the
one in the picture
here.
At the top is an audio panel.
Via this, the different radios are connected to speakers or headsets, and it is
determined which radio is selected for transmission.
Under the audio panel are 2 radios, each with a communication part (com part)
and a navigation part.
The com part is on the left, and you can see the active frequency on COM 1 is
127.25(0) MHz. To the right of this, in the standby window, 118.00(0) is
displayed, waiting to be switched over as the active one.
The display only shows 2 digits after the decimal point. New radio today shows
3 digits after the decimal point.
Familiarize yourself thoroughly with how the radio works, because problems
with the radio occur when, for example, you press the wrong button under stress
or do not properly plug in a headset jack.
You often have the choice between using a handheld microphone with a
transmit button or using the built-in microphone in the headset. If the
microphone in the headset is used, you must press a transmit button, which is
usually located in or on the steering wheel.
