                6.2.2    Definitions


                Below are definitions of the most commonly used terms in GA aviation.

                Crew member: A person appointed by an airline to serve on board an aircraft

                in connection with a flight.


                Person with reduced mobility: A person who is unable to move to the nearest

                emergency exit at floor level during an emergency evacuation (blind, (visually

                impaired) or deaf (hard of hearing) persons are not included in the term “person

                with reduced mobility”).

                Block time: The period of time between the first maneuver of an aircraft from

                the  stand  for  take-off  and  the parking of  the  aircraft  on  the  stand  and  the

                stopping of all engines or propellers.


                Flight time: The total time from the moment an aircraft starts moving under its
                own power for take-off until the moment it comes to rest after completing the

                flight (analogous to the terms “block-to-block” or “chock-to-chock time”).


                Meteorological information: Meteorological reports, analyses, forecasts and

                any description relating to existing or expected meteorological conditions.


                Passenger: Any person not performing duties as a crew member during the
                flight.


                Ground visibility: The visibility at an aerodrome, as indicated by an approved

                weather observer or by automatic systems.


                Cloud height: The height above the ground or water of the lower edge of the

                lowest cloud layer below 6000 meters (20000 FT) that covers more than half of
                the sky.


                Special VFR flight: A VFR flight that has been cleared by an air traffic control

                unit to fly in a control zone in weather conditions that are worse than visual

                weather conditions.

                VFR holding pattern: A predetermined maneuver that keeps the aircraft within

                a specified airspace while awaiting further clearance.
