8.12.11 Radio equipment in the school plane
Below is a description of the avionics in the school plane SE-ITZ (Cessna 172).
As a student, you must be able to use all the equipment in the plane, so study it
thoroughly, and YOUTUBE is a good help in terms of watching videos that
describe the equipment.
8.12.11.1 The King KMA 20 Audio Panel
At the top we have the King KMA 20 Audio Panel.
The audio panel controls the incoming sound as well as our transmission, and we
can choose which device we want to listen to. It can be COM 1, COM 2, NAV 1,
NAV 2, ADF, DME or Marker Beacon.
We can choose between getting the sound out of the SPEAKER (speaker) or out
of the PHONE, our headsets.
The audio panel above is set to send sound from the DME and MKR to our
speaker. MKR receives in HIGH mode, so it is full blast.
When MKR is active, one of the 3 lamps located at the bottom left will be lit.
They are marked A, O or M. They give a signal when you pass over one of them
during an approach to an instrument landing.
At the top left there is a rotary knob with which you select
which radio to transmit from.
You can choose between COM 1 or COM 2.
