Aircraft general knowledge

The DME can also display GS (based on the speed at which we approach the radio

beacon). Remember that it is the slant distance that is displayed on the DME.

DME is used to determine the distance to or from a radio navigation aid, e.g. a
VOR or a TACAN. It is part of IFR procedures.

                8.12.11.7 Sigtronics SPA 400 INTERCOM

The Sigtronics SPA 400 INTERCOM is

mounted on the center console next to

                the trim wheel.

When the other radio equipment is not turned on, you can talk to each other via

                this system.

The SQUELSH setting (SQ) must be set correctly, so that you do not have to speak

too loudly before it opens and so that it does not open too easily, so that we get

                hiss during takeoff and climb.

When the GTN 225 COM 2 is turned on, the intercom takes over our conversation
                with each other.

There are headsets and connectors for these in the aircraft. Be careful not to mix

up the pilot and front passenger headsets. There is a button for transmission on

the steering wheel for the pilot and on the instrument panel for the instructor.

                8.12.11.8 ACR 400 PLB

The ACR 400 PLB (Personal Locator Beacon) is located just above the fuel selector

                in a small holder.
