The EXT function is not used in small aircraft, but in large aircraft you set the
transmission selector to EXT when you want to speak to the passengers.
8.12.11.2 COM/NAV 1 radio, Garmin 430
Under the audio panel we have the COM/NAV 1 radio, Garmin 430
The Garmin430 is a combined communication radio / navigation radio.
Communication is 8.33 kHz channel spacing.
Navigation is partly VOR and ILS (Instrument Landing System) and GPS.
The GNS 430 is approved for IFR flight, and since it is a model with WAAS (Wide
Area Augmentation System), it is approved for very accurate GPS Navigation and
approach procedures.
It is important to keep the unit updated. This is done via memory cards mounted
to the right and left of the ON/OFF and volume knobs at the top left of the radio
itself.
