P. 15

The Entrepreneur is the Leader. He or
she mobilises intent and provides the
energy (passion) to identify an opportunity,
overcome set-up inertia, and create goal
         directed momentum. Entrepreneurs have three
         things in common.
         1. Vision

ƒ They see something fresh and new
            ƒ Recognise opportunities
ƒ Want to find a way to serve their communities and mankind
ƒ Identify ways to create better products or services
ƒ Understand how to access the economy, and
ƒ They see how profit may be derived from an activity

         2. Mission

ƒ They have a good understanding of how the vision is achievable
ƒ Hold the organisation blueprint in their mind, and
ƒ Have faith in that what they believe is possible is in fact achievable
         3. Business Mindedness

ƒ They know the mechanics of business (how business works)
ƒ Recognise the value in delivering on client and stakeholder expectations
ƒ Know what are core activities in their business
ƒ Know how to attract and retain staff in their business, and
ƒ Know how to create an engaging work environment and culture

Entrepreneurs are resilient to setbacks and are often single minded in their pursuit of “the purpose
         that drives their passion”.
If the passion of the Entrepreneur is to be “rich in material possessions”, then often the vision
changes, and the momentum is lost. Money, of course, does not fulfil the desire to create that which
exists in each entrepreneur’s soul – which continually begs for expression and contribution.
Entrepreneurs are authentic. They express their deepest thoughts and emotions and become more
passionate as they discover more about themselves, their behaviour and “habits” under stress and in
         normal day to day circumstances.
Entrepreneurs become better leaders as they discover their true selves. In mentoring Entrepreneurs,
we take them through the Personal Development Analysis (PDA). The PDA Assessment does not
qualify behaviour profiles as “good or bad”, rather it provides insights into an individual’s behavioural
characteristics and how they modify their behaviour to their environment.
The PDA assessment is beneficial to Entrepreneurs as it helps them to understand their strengths
and developmental areas. The PDA is able to benchmark Entrepreneurs against six entrepreneurial
competencies that we are interested in building on:
            ƒ Business Skills
            ƒ Initiative
            ƒ Perseverance
            ƒ Risk Management
            ƒ Self Confidence
            ƒ Team Leadership
                                                                                                                13
This helps them to understand themselves, their strengths, and how they can identify supporting and
distracting traits in others. The aim being to support better client, peer and colleague interactions.
