WHERE ARE WE TODAY, AND
WHAT ARE THE FIRST STEPS NEEDED?
hile society is formulating ideas of anticipated and acceptable green products and
services, business leaders need to focus on ensuring their businesses are adequately
Wdesigned and prepared for the new economy, and the new “highly effective” way we
manage our organisations.
Having been a business mentor for the past 30 years, and grown my own significant organisations, I
discovered a simple process to help SME (Small and Medium Enterprises) business leaders recognise
the various core aspects of their organisations, and to provide order, structure and direction.
Think of the statistics. Research shows that eight out of ten organisations fail after their first two
years of operation, and only twenty to twenty five percent of people state that they enjoy getting up
in the morning and going to work. Also, in many economies around the world, it is estimated that
organisations are only forty percent productive.
I am sure you will agree that this is a waste of resourcing, affecting the lives of millions of people,
and diverting attention and funding from successful organisations that would benefit from receiving
support for their growth and development as resourcing, intellectual capacity and expansion funding.
The simple process being the formula [Idea + Leadership + Functional Area Support + Engaging
Work Environment = Success and Sustainability] will help many entrepreneurs and business
leaders identify each of the areas within their business environment where focus and development is
necessary and required. The formula encourages entrepreneurs and business leaders to recognise
that the definition of success is linked to ensuring an ongoing and sustainable organisation.
