        Bowled – Spot the Bails!!

The desperate shortage of cricket has got me retreating to the
archives. Our sons all played for the local club. Well, that was
a few years ago… before we moved to the coast. So, if I say
we spent almost every spring and summer weekend around a
cricket pitch somewhere in Ireland’s Leinster province I’m not
          telling you porkies, I promise!

We love the involvement – as a family, we love cricket, so-
much-so that I even did an official umpiring course and stood
in a number of games for a season. But… my buggered back
got in the way. Anyway, that was a blessing in disguise… be-
cause I realised I much preferred being outside, looking in…
with my camera. At some point I acquired an ancient zoom
lens. I had to shoot manual… which teaches patience and the
way things used to be… using an element of skill to capture
          images.

OK… enough of me blowing my own vuvuzela. The reason
I tell you all of the above is because I can… no, because now
you know where I’m going with this. Explaining what the
photos are about. I sort of fluked a few real action moments
          – when the ball hits the stumps and the bails fly. That got me
into trying my best to capture the bowled moments. My best
efforts were five bowled images in one game… so, I can also
          claim a personal 5-for! But… that’s a story for another day –
for today, here’s a selection of photos taken in 2015 – feel free
to play the “spot the bails” game…
