104 Don’t Make Me Say I Told You So
Many core funds employ either balanced or blend strategies.
Balanced funds combine both stocks and bonds into a single
fund to try to achieve steady returns and improved asset
allocation. Blend funds combine both value and growth stocks
into a single fund. Core funds can be used to try to provide
more predictable returns in a variety of market environments.
The idea is that a diversified mix of investing styles and asset
classes may create a more stable portfolio.
In addition to being classified as value, growth, or core, a fund
can be categorized by the size of the stocks in which it invests.
The styles we’ve discussed can be further divided into small-
cap, mid-cap, and large-cap.
