The following is a list of questions on the role, task and

function of the management team..

Q : What is the role of the Chief Executive?

A : The role of the Chief Executive is to deal with non-
recurring problems.

Q : Is it wise for one person to hold the dual role of chief

executive and chairman?

A : The Cadbury Report on corporate governance (1993)

identified problems associated with the holding of this
dual role and advised that they be separate.

Q : To what extent should the term ‘Chief Executive’ be

viewed as a collective noun?

A : The chief executive, although an individual, should

operate only with the consensus and co-operation of the

team of decision makers on the board. The crucial issue is
that of power and how much is retained by the chief

executive and how much shared with other board

members. The Chief Executive is the first amongst equals.

ultimately, at division level.
